Paonia sends 30 to state

The team of Hillman, Reed, Jason Sturgis and Jacob Helleckson placed first in the 2A WSL and will compete at state this week.The Paonia track and field team will send 30 athletes to the state 2A meet, which opens this Thursday at Jefferson County Stadium in Lakewood. They include 26 "core" athletes, and four alternates, according to head coach Brian Mitchem.

Paonia, Hotchkiss advance

The out was one of three double plays in Paonia’s 11-1 district championship win Saturday over the Bulldogs. Both North Fork teams advanced to the state 2A regional bracket.Both North Fork baseball teams will advance to 2A regional baseball competition after finishing first and second respectively in the District 2 tournament. Paonia and Hotchkiss were seeded one and two going into the tournament, held Friday and Saturday at Delta.

Paonia track teams aim for repeat of league titles

b08 phstr1Photo by Tamie Meck Paonia’s Tony Darling makes his best throw of the day to place second last Friday at the Bruin Invitational. Darling is ranked first in 2A WSL standings heading into this week’s league meet at Grand Junction. He is seeking his second straight title.In a matter of 2 minutes, 18.46 seconds, Paonia freshman Ashley Van Vleet jumped from a 40-something ranked runner to a top contender in the 800-meter run. At Friday's Bruin Invitational, she took 22 seconds off her prior best in the event to post the third-best time in state 2A competition.

Eagles avenge baseball loss to Cedaredge, 12-0

Paonia is seeded first in this weekend’s district tournament in Delta.Joel Simianer drove in four runs with a first-inning grand slam homer against Cedaredge on April 30. It was the second grand slam for the sophomore, and one of 11 hits for the game for the Eagles in their 12-0 home win over the Bruins.

Forfeits cost Paonia in 4-3 loss to Delta

Delta won the match 4-3.t eight weeks from opening day to the state finals, the tennis season is the shortest of all in Colorado prep sports. Regional 8 competition, which includes all four Delta County schools, happens today and tomorrow at Canyon View Park in Grand Junction.
