Paonia plays better in loss to Centauri team

Paonia defensive back Taylor Katzer is tackled after making an interception at Basalt in the Eagles’ season-opening game. Katzer has four interceptions this season, including two on Saturday in Paonia’s game with Centauri.
Four weeks into the season and Paonia has yet to play a home game. They also have yet to earn a win and are now 0-3 following a 7-6 loss last Saturday at Centauri.

Paonia netters win 4, 9-0

Paonia outside hitter Carson Pipher prepares for a kill shot during Saturday’s 3-1 win over Meeker. Pipher, a five-foot-five junior, has played varsity volleyball since her freshman year but is having her best season yet in terms of consistency.
At 9-0, Paonia remains the only undefeated team in 2A Western Slope League volleyball after posting another four convincing wins last week.

The team doesn't have a lot of height, and they are starting a freshman and two sophomores.

Summer duals catching on

Serious competitors know that off-season matches can make or break a wrestling season.

"Oh, it makes all the difference in the world," said David Falls, head coach at Pueblo West High School.

Hershey’s meet completed

Missa Webb crosses the finish line first in the 100m dash in the 11-12 age division of the Hershey’s Track Meet held at Delta High School on June 6. Webb also won the standing long jump and the 200m dash events.
The 2012 Hershey's Region 5 Track Meet for area athletes was held at Delta High School on June 6.

There were 69 athletes assembled to participate in the eight events associated with the nationally renowned program.

Lady Eagles run, throw, jump to fourth at state

Paonia’s Brooklynd Erickson jumps 15 feet, 10.25 inches to place ninth at the 2A state long jump. Erickson, a freshman, competed in the maximum four events.
It wasn't the Lady Eagles' first time to run all five relays at state, but it was the first time that all five placed, according to head coach Brian Mitchem. The relay teams also re-set school records in four of those relays.
