The Paonia Lady Eagles basketball team is one of three remaining undefeated teams in the 2A/1A Western Slope League heading into the final games of the regular season.
On Friday, post Ashley Van Vleet shot four of six from the line and sank six field goals to score a season-high 16 points in Paonia's 46-22 win at Plateau Valley.
Carson Pipher added 10 points and, along with Van Vleet, had five of the team's 17 steals for the game.
With the Jan. 31 game against Vail Christian postponed by snow, Plateau Valley was the first team the Lady Eagles have seen since their 61-point blowout at North Park.
Paonia faced the Saints (6-8 overall, 0-5 2A/1A Western Slope League) Tuesday night at Vail. See the Feb. 19 DCI for details.
With less than two weeks before district tournaments open, Meeker (14-2, 6-0) remains in first place in WSL standings.
In January's home game, the Lady Eagles lost a non-league battle by a point to the Lady Cowboys. "They made the first shot, they made the last shot," said head coach Scott Rienks after the win. "We know we can do better than that."
They will have a chance Saturday at Meeker.
Paonia (12-3, 5-0) will host a conference game against Rangely (2-14, 2-4) this Friday at 5:30 p.m. On Feb. 18 they host the final game of the regular season against Hotchkiss, which also ended the week undefeated (6-0) in WSL play.blog comments powered by Disqus
