Paonia has been getting a lot of good looks lately, and Carson Pipher is taking advantage of them. The senior guard scored a season-high 18 points in the Lady Eagles' home-opening non-conference loss to Meeker Saturday.
Paonia lost by a single point (37-36).
"We played well," said coach Scott Rienks, adding that he wasn't disappointed in the loss. "We knew Meeker was the team to beat. They beat us at districts last year and we let them do it again. They made the first basket and the last basket."
Meeker junior Sydney Hughes scored a game-high 20 points in the win.
In Friday's 46-4 win at Rangely, Pipher made half of her shots to score a game-high 13 points for Paonia.
Braiden Clement added six, and Emily Pieper and Ashley Van Vleet came off the bench to add five each.
Rangely's four points came late in the fourth quarter. Rienks said he had his bench in the game by the second quarter.
Paonia will play for the conference win against Meeker and Rangely in February.
This Friday Paonia will host its conference opener against Soroco (6-1) and on Saturday travel to Hayden (4-4). Paonia will face rival Hotchkiss on Jan. 21.blog comments powered by Disqus
