Eagles’ track teams shine

Tiedeman found a burst of energy to pass Hillman and finished fourth. Tiedeman ran a 2:05.30 and Hillman a 2:05.71.At Friday's Montrose Invitational all-class track meet, the Paonia girls scored 33 of their 68 points in relays: first (10 points), 800-meter sprint medley — 2 minutes, 25.47 seconds; second (8), 800m team — 1:48.98; third (6), 400m — 51.61; 4th (5), 3200m — 10:35.96; and fifth (4), 1600m — 4:23.46.

The girls' team placed fifth at the 19-team meet.

Eagles WSL baseball champs

b05 phsbbPhoto by Tamie Meck The Paonia Eagles finished first in the 2A WSL with an 11-1 record after posting double-header wins Saturday over Meeker. The six-team District 2 tournament opens May 11 at Delta.The Paonia Eagles wrapped up 2A Western Slope conference competition Saturday, defeating Meeker, 14-4, 15-4, at Meeker.

Meeker has improved this season and played well, said head coach Drew Potter.

Paonia girls first, boys fifth at Gunnison Invite

The senior sprinter for Paonia signed to run track for Western State Colorado University.

Eagles win 2A WSL with double-header win

It was a good day overall said head coach Brian Mitchem, “with icy cold wind” in the late afternoon.Practice conditions were hardly ideal last week as Paonia prepared for a conference double-header against Rangely. But the Eagles were ready when they stepped off the bus, warming up with a 7-4 win over their hosts, then handing them a 17-3 throttling in five innings in game two.

Paonia girls 2nd, boys 3rd at Demon Invite

Despite having two top athletes out for spring break, the Paonia girls' track team scored 141 points to place second at Saturday's Glenwood Springs Demon Invitational. Glenwood Springs won the meet with 142 points.

Paonia won four of five relays, including the 1600-meter relay, which they won in 4 minutes, 11.71 seconds — a full 9 seconds ahead of second place Glenwood Springs.
