Tunget gym qualifies 4
A misplaced set of papers included sports stories from early June. Even though the stories are not as timely as liked, it is with sincere apologies from Sports Editor Wayne Crick that they find their way to the sports section of The Delta County Independent.
One of the missing stories included a report from Brenda Tunget regarding Tunget Gymnastics final state qualifying meet on June 2, 2012, in Grand Junction at the Kidzplex Gym.
Level Four athletes took second with Level Three placing fifth and the Optional 5 team took sixth.
Four more gymnasts qualified to compete in the state meet. Those qualifying athletes include Lexy Loy (Level Three), Lyla Baril-Hayutin (Level Four), Tess Gore and Lily Stedman at Optional 5.
Tunget listed the top finishers in each Level.
In Level Three, the winners included Idamae Morris; fifth on the vault and bars, second on the beam, eighth in floor exercise, and fourth all around.
Ayralin Hoffbauer was third on the bars and eighth on the beam; Eliza Cowley placed seventh on the beam and was sixth in the floor exercise; Jaden Valdez was eighth on the bars; Remi Baldwin placed sixth in the vault, third on the bars, sixth in floor exercise, and was sixth all around.
Level Four's top finishers included Jaci Murdock who was second in the vault, first on the bars, second on the beam, first in floor exercise, and first all around.
Other top finishers for Level Four included Brianna Hall who was tenth on the bars, ninth on the beam, tenth in floor exercise, and tenth all around; Aubree Andre with a first in vault, second on the bars, second on the beam, eighth in floor exercise, and second all around; Niclole Price who was fourth on the vault, seventh on the bars, fourth on the beam, second in floor exercise, and fourth all around; Caitlyn Carlquist was second in vault, tenth on the bars, eighth on the beam, fourth in floor exercise, and eighth all around.
Other Level Four competitors included Sophia Lareau with a first in vault, fifth on the bars, second on the beam, a seventh in floor exercise, and fourth all around; Mya Murdock was fifth in the vault, sixth on the bars, third on the beam, fourth in floor exercise, and fifth all around; Lyla Baril Hayutin with a tenth on the bars and beam, ninth in floor exercise, and tenth overall; Lynzie Stratman with an eighth in the vault, first on the bars, fifth on the beam, second in floor exercise, and third all around.
Optional 5 competitors included Pascalina Earley with a third in the vault and first on the beam and Lily Stedman who was fourth in vaulting.
Optional 6 performer Kayla Sandoval placed fourth on the vault, fifth on the bars, and fourth in both the floor exercise and all around.
Kelsey Spadafora was third on the beam in Optional 7 competition.
