Devil's Thumb hosted the 13th Annual Wells Fargo Golf Classic on Aug. 3 and 4. Thirty-eight teams made up of two-man teams competed for prizes.
There were four flights of golfers that were vying for top gross and net honors in the two-day tourney. The top three scores in each of the gross and net categories claimed the top money in each flight.
Kim Eaton and Pat Kuntz fired identical round scores of 68 to earn First Flight's top prize in gross competition with a 136. Winners in net competition were Erica Estes and Jo Garrison with a two-day total of 117.
Maressa McClintock and Kyra Kuntz had rounds of 73 and 65 to place second in gross play while Erin Galbreath and Lisa Richards shot 125 for second place in net play.
Third place in gross competition for the First Flight went to Tami Holt and Pam Buerger with their 151 (75-76). Vicki Johnson and Mary Bartz had rounds of 62 and 64 for a 126 to earn third place in net play.
Second Flight's top gross winners were Peggy and Katy Brink (80/81-161). Second place belonged to Keri Kock and Janice Kollath (89/79-168) and Connie Jack and Kathy Anderson shot an 89/84 for a 173 and third place.
Pat Ochs and Tami Smith had a 121 (65/56) to win the top net purse in Second Flight. Second
place went to Vicki Ripp and Cindy Lonis with their 132 (64/68) and Dolli Garrison and Barbara Daveline shot a 136 (65/71) to place third.
In Third Flight play, Tammy Fresmire and Kathi Miller carded a 167 (82/85) to top the rest of the flight. Second place winners were Sue Means and Donnie Cochran with their 185 (93/92). Linda Phillips and Barb Thurman shot a 93 and 94 for a 187 and third place in gross play.
Net winners in the Third Flight included Patty Vanlandingham and Chris Sterton with a two-day total of 130 (63/67) and third place. Second place net honors went to Norma Miller and Helen Jurca with rounds of 62 and 64. Rosalie Beyham and Debbie Titus shot a 125 (60/65) to earn the top prize in net play for the Third Flight.
In the Fourth Flight, Nancy Cole and Jinx Richards combined rounds of 95 for a 190 and first place in gross play. Shelly Marquardt and Peg Toft had rounds of 98 and 95 to card a 193 and second place. With rounds of 95 and 106, Bev Burke and Nancy Stevens placed third in gross play with a 201.
When totals were completed, Becky Brown and Archie Wethington shot rounds of 63 and 66 (129) to win top net honors in the Fourth Flight. Second place belonged to Bonnie Johnson and Beverly Townsend who combined rounds of 66 and 68 for a 134.
There was a tie for third place in net play with Judy Neely and Kay Foutz scoring rounds of 68 and 73 while Betty Jo Gillum and Carolyn Stephens had rounds of 74 and 67 for identical scores of 141.
There were numerous situational prizes and Devil's Thumb Bar and Grill provided a luncheon following play on Sunday.
Emcee Vicki Ripp complimented the crew of volunteers who worked the tournament and thanked the luncheon staff and the staff of Devil's Thumb Golf Club for a wonderful two days.
The tournament was a huge success and golf pro Rob Sanders commented on the event. "It went well. I believe this was the largest Wells Fargo tournament I've seen."blog comments powered by Disqus
