A local Special Olympics softball team is hoping for a chance to play in the Colorado Special Olympics Softball Tournament scheduled for Aug. 17 in Aurora.
The Delta Slammers, a coed softball team comprised of players ranging in age from 15-40, has played in a recent tournament held in Grand Junction and is now trying to make it to state in Aurora.
A fundraising pool tournament, to be held at the Sports Lounge in Delta, is scheduled for Aug. 11 beginning at 1 p.m. The team also has a bake sale on Aug. 10 at Walmart from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There is a car wash planned for Aug. 10 as well on Main Street from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The cost of attending this year's state meet in Aurora most certainly will not be achieved with the scheduled fundraising events alone. Coach Teresa Weaver is accepting donations from the public to help defer the expense of the trip. To help defray the cost for the Delta Slammer's trip to state, please contact Weaver at 970-589-1674.blog comments powered by Disqus
