The summer slowpitch softball season for Bill Heddles Recreation Center finally came to a close last week.
After several weeks of postponing tournament play due to rain, both the men's and women's softball leagues were able to crown tournament champions last Thursday (Aug. 8) at Mountain View Park in Delta.
The women's league finished its regular season with Wells Fargo on top of league standings with a 10-2 record. H & R Block was second at 9-3 and Sluggers third with its 5-7 record. Overholt Truss was winless in 12 games in 2013.
H & R advanced to the tourney's first title game after a 17-2 win over Sluggers in losers' bracket play. H & R then earned a shot at the title with an 11-7 win in the first game for the championship. The double-elimination tournament went one more game because Wells Fargo and H & R had 1-1 records in tournament play.
Final game action was close, with Wells Fargo holding on to earn a 12-10 victory for the tournament title. Wells Fargo was the only team to earn both the league and tournament title in the 2013 season.
Balls Deep was the 2013 Men's Slowpitch league champion with its 13-1 record. Delta Metals Crusaders finished third at 11-3. Delta Metals proved to be the better team in double-elimination play after three hard-played games last Thursday evening at Mountain View Park.
Delta Metals won the first title game 28-25 and lost the second to send the championship contest to a third and deciding game. That game went past 11 p.m. with Delta Metals earning a 10-run rule win in five innings.blog comments powered by Disqus
