The DC Force U14 boys soccer team continued its march toward an undefeated season by winning the prestigious Trebol Tournament in Denver last weekend, Oct. 5-6. The DC Force is the competitive arm of the Delta County Youth Soccer Association.
This team is comprised of boys from Delta, Cedaredge, Hotchkiss and Paonia. The team is 9-0 in the Western Slope Soccer League, beating teams from Grand Junction, Montrose, Glenwood Springs and Carbondale.
But this team set its sights higher than winning league play. It wanted to compete and show well in a tournament against top teams from the Front Range. Competing in a bracket with the top teams from Greeley, Boulder County and Golden, the Force finished with a win and two ties which was enough to advance to the championship game. To advance, the boys had to overcome a three-goal deficit against the host Trebol team. Showing tremendous heart and determination they dominated the last 20 minutes and tied the score 3-3 to keep their hopes alive.
In the championship game the Force played the top team from Westminster. Again they had to overcome a deficit, this time one goal, to win 2-1. After each game the opposing coaches would ask "Where are you from?" They may still not know where Delta County is but they know good soccer is played here.
The other highlight of the weekend was the opportunity for the team to attend the Colorado Rapids professional soccer game on Saturday night. The team was treated to a show as the Rapids won 5-1, scoring 4 goals right in front of the team's seats.
All in all it was a magical weekend for this special group of boys.blog comments powered by Disqus
