Hellman’s won the game with a score of 16-6.The four local adult softball leagues began play in mid-May at Mountain View Park in Delta. The number of players in the summer adult leagues in Delta shows a decline in some leagues while others reflect an increase.
Silver Coed League
Monday's Silver Coed League has seven teams listed on summer schedules. Each team has basically seven weeks of play which includes 12 games for each team. Teams play double headers some weeks and single games in other weeks.
On July 8, the Silver Coed League begins its summer-ending tournament. The double-elimination tournament adds several games to the win-loss columns as teams progress through tourney play.
At the top of league standings, through June 16, are All Glass Station and Edward Jones with identical 6-1 records. Edward Jones rolled past Calvary Baptist 23-2 while All Glass Station put the lid on Double J Flying Trash Cans 19-5.
Delta Metals is third with a 5-2 record following its forfeit win over Cutters (2-5). In fourth place is U.S. Bank which has a 4-2 record after sneaking past Delta Metals 6-5 last week.
Calvary Baptist is resting in fifth place with its 1-6 record and Double J Flying Trash Cans is on the bottom having lost all seven of its games so far.
The game schedule for June 24 begins at 6:30 p.m. on both the black and red fields. Games have an hour time limit with game two on each field set for 7:30 p.m. and game three at 8:30 p.m.
Each contest is a seven-inning game, unless one team is ahead by 10 or more runs after five innings of play. A 20-run lead after three innings also stops a game.
Tuesday Gold League
Only five teams are playing in the more competitive Tuesday league. These teams have the same length of schedule as Monday's league, with their year-end tournament beginning on July 2.
Teams in this league also have double header weeks and single-game weeks on a rotational basis.
Games are played on both the black and red fields at Mountain View Park and begin at 6:30 p.m., with the evening's final games beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Delta Family Fun Park was the league-leader after the week of June 16 with a record of 7-1. Wells Fargo Home Mortgage was second at 5-2. In third place is Bad News Bears with its 4-5 record while Twist Off is 3-4 and in fourth.
Hellman Chevy has a lock on the cellar with its 1-8 record.
Next week's schedule, June 25, has Twist Off and Bad News Bears playing on the black field at 6:30 p.m. while Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Delta Family Fun Park play their game on the red field.
At 7:30 p.m., Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and Twist Off play on the black field with Delta Family Fun Park and Hellman Chevy facing each other on the red field.
For the first time in many years, the players on H and R Block's roster are not in first place in the women's league standings. Their nemesis, Wells Fargo Home Mortgage, has gotten the best of its league opponents and boast a perfect 8-0 mark as of June 16 following its double header win last week.
H and R is in second place with a 5-2 record as of June 16 and the Sluggers have a 2-6 record for third place in league standings. Overholt Truss is 0-7 and is in last place in women's play.
This league begins play each Thursday at 6:30 p.m. with three games scheduled through 8:30 p.m.
Thursday's (June 20) schedule has the Sluggers and Overholt Truss at 6:30, Overholt Truss and H and R Block at 7:30, and Wells Fargo Home Mortgage and H and R Block at 8:30.
Both the men's and women's softball leagues have eight weeks of games on their schedules. While the women play 12 games, plus tournament play, the men have 14 games plus tourney action, beginning on July 18.
This year's men's league has the highest number of team entries with eight. Balls Deep sits atop league standings at 8-1 following double header victories last Thursday. Delta Metals Crusaders is hanging onto second place with its 6-1 record and Hellman Chevy is third at 6-2.
Moralez Trucking is fourth (4-4), followed by Big B's (4-5), The Casers at 3-6 and Kropf Farm Bulls is sixth with its 2-6 mark. The league's cellar dweller is Watson Warriors which is winless in eight games.
Games for this league have alternating starting times each Thursday at Mountain View Park. This week's schedule begins at 6 p.m. with next week's (June 27) games beginning at 7 p.m.
Game two (black and red fields) is scheduled for 7 p.m. with games three and four set for 8 and 9 p.m. respectively.
