A first for Delta

Bill Heddles Recreation Center hosted the city’s first pickleball tournament Saturday, May 25. The tennis courts near the rec center were divided into eight pickleball courts for the event, which featured men’s doubles, women’s doubles and mixed doubles competititon. Pickleball combines elements of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is suitable for most ages, from children to seniors. This summer, the recreation center is offering pickleball leagues for men and women, as well as drop-in pickleball for kids. More information on this fast-growing sport is available by calling the recreation center at 874-0923.

U11 Soccer Champs

The Delta County Force U11 soccer team won its division at the 2013 GMIT Border Battle in Grand Junction. Members of the team include; back row, l-r, Coach Paul Gibb, Sam Gibb, Leo Chapman, Cooper Gibb, Zeb Etter, Blade McCormick, Logan Green, Felipe Bedoy, Coach Jim Maulhardt, and Nathan Downey. Along the front is Grant Freed, Martin Corral, Sean Maulhardt and Dagan Schwartz.
