The VFW Building Benefit Golf Tournament is scheduled for May 4 at Devil's Thumb Golf Club in Delta.

Tournament play is set to start at 8:30 a.m.

Junior International Cup.Carly Horn, daughter of Mark and Emily Horn of Paonia, took two bronze medals for sport karate home over the weekend of March 29-30, 2013. She won third place in both the 2013 U.S.A. Junior International Cup and the U.S. Open in Las Vegas, Nev., against girls from Mexico, Puerto Rico, Venezuela, Hawaii, Chicago and California.

Even though the prep basketball season is over and your favorite college team is either still playing or has long since been eliminated from this year's national championships, the time for Jack Hawkins Memorial Scholarship play is just around the corner. In fact, Tuesday, April 23, is the target date for all those athletes who wish to play a little more basketball and remember one of the all-time great basketball fans, Big Jack Hawkins.
