The Orchard City Town Board’s regular monthly meeting set for Nov. 11 has been changed to the first Wednesday of November.

The Nov. 4 rescheduled date was approved by trustees because Nov. 11 is Veterans Day.

Mayor Don Suppes proposed the change in order to honor veterans.

“Well, I’m a veteran, and meeting on Veteran’s Day doesn’t offend me,” joked Trustee Jerald Brunemeier.

“I just thought you might like the night off,” Suppes replied

“Well then, ok,” said Brunemeier.

The trustees voted 5-0 to change the meeting date for November. Trustee Jimmie Boyd did not vote. He was absent and was given an excused absence from the meeting.

In other business at their Oct. 14 regular meeting the Orchard City Trustees dealt with the following matters:

• The board accepted the thanks of resident Tony Chatto for adding lane striping at the intersection of Highway 65 and Iris Road.

• The board conducted a public hearing on a 3.2 beer carry-out liquor license for the Cory Store.

Town administrator David Varley reported there had been no objections filed to the renewal; that the sheriff’s office had reported no incidents in the last year that would affect the renewal; that the business had paid all fees; and, that the town staff recommended approval of the renewal application.

Trustees voted 5-0 on Trustee Len Johnson’s motion and Brunemeir’s second to approve the renewal application.

• In the town administrator’s report, Varley reported that work continues on converting Orchard City’s newly purchased raw water decrees to municipal use. “We have applications in for storage water rights and change of water rights,” he said.

In his financial report, Varley said that revenues from the town’s share of county sales tax receipts are down 3.7 percent this year, which is in line with the town’s budget projections.
