Colorado State Association of Emblem Clubs held their second meeting at the Delta Elks Lodge Oct. 24. The meeting opened for registration at 8:30 a.m. A workshop conducted by Wilma Harris reminded everyone of ritual procedure. President Clara George, Montrose #92, invited Vickie Proffit, director of House of Promise, to explain their reason for being and how the organization works. Located near Olathe, the House of Promise brings healing and hopefulness to mothers and children. An auction was conducted by Dora Valdez, assisted by Marie Stucker, Doris Leavenhagen and Mary Jo Chaffee as clerk Mary Jo Chaffee and Kennadine Duncan did a skit. The luncheon featured a potato bar and dessert. President Clara opened the meeting at 1 p.m. Roll call found first trustee Jennifer Ludwig, press correspondent, district two, Jean Gaiovik and organist Nettie Landon absent. Roll call of clubs found Hotchkiss with 10, Delta eight, Montrose five and Durango one. There were 10 past state presidents in attendance. The minutes were read and approved. Treasurer Ruth Marvel and financial secretary Mary Jo Chaffee made their reports. Blondie Campbell reported $235 from pin sales. Mary Jo Chaffee read the duties of the Americanism chairman. She compiled a scrapbook for Delta #462. She read an article by a sixth grader from Louisiana who had written why he as proud to say the pledge of allegiance to the flag. Clara asked Lavon Campbell to escort the following supreme officers to the altar to receive gifts: Karen Martin, #306, supreme district deputy; Margaret Deutsch, organist; Kay Thatcher; and Dora Valdez. Barbara Pierce reported on the supreme convention, changes in rules and the places they visited. The meeting closed. Katie Moran Press correspondent District #1
