In the Delta County Board of Commissioners’ ongoing attempt to better communicate with its constituents the board is hosting a constituent forum at the Orchard City Town Hall Thursday, Jan. 21, from 6 to 8 p.m. While the “News You Can Use” feature in the newspaper has been useful as a tool to get information to you about the activities of your county government, it is limited by being impersonal and provides only one-way communication.

Although every Board of County Commissioners meeting is open to the public and has a scheduled time for input from our constituents, we realize it is difficult for many people to get to the courthouse in Delta to attend daytime meetings. Therefore we are going to schedule evening public forums at varying locations throughout the county so that we can talk with you directly. Please come and share your ideas with us.

I’m sure you’re aware we are just completing a long and difficult process developing next year’s budget. We are pleased that careful planning and conservative forecasting in the past has allowed us to balance the 2010 budget with a minimum of cutbacks in service to the public. Even though next year’s budget is only slightly less than last year’s, we were able to balance it with only a small transfer from our reserves. The county carries no significant debt at this time.

In closing we would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! Even though times are tough right now, we continue to have many blessings for which to be thankful!
