Two teams who finished near the bottom of their respective divisions are at the top of their league standings in 2009-10. The Eagle Valley Lady Devils were one of the least effective teams in the 4A WSL.

So far this year, Eagle Valley has shown a remarkable ability to win ballgames as they rest atop the 4A standings with a 7-1 slate. From the boys’ division, Battle Mountain’s Huskies has jumped out to a 4-1 record to share the lead in that division.

Steamboat Springs’ girls were another team that was found in the bottom half of league standings for the past few seasons. So far this season the Lady Sailors are 5-4 and in second place just ahead of perennial power Glenwood Springs (4-3).

Team records fall off dramatically after Glenwood’s 4-3. Moffat County is currently fourth with a 2-6 mark and Delta is fifth with their 1-3 record. Rifle (1-4), Battle Mountain (1-5), and Palisade (0-6) complete the list of teams in the girls’ division.

With the season still young, the list of teams trailing Battle Mountain in the 4A WSL could change its order of standings. Right now, according to available statistics, Glenwood Springs is the second best team with their 4-4 record.

After that, Palisade and Rifle share third with their 3-3 slates while Steamboat Springs is fifth at 3-5. Moffat County and Eagle Valley have 2-6 records and Delta is 0-3 to hold down the league’s final spot.

Like the rest of the state’s basketball teams, Delta, and the rest of the 4A league teams, are eligible to resume their practice schedules this week. For the Panthers, league play will begin the first week of Jan. with WSL conference contests scheduled to kick off the new year.
