Donna and Gary Allen of the Cedaredge Lodge hold the Business of the Year Award presented during the CACC annual banquet at The Grill on Jan. 16.
Emcee for the evening’s event was Eileen Liles, incoming chamber president. She presented the annual community recognition awards, and Sheri Owens of the Lovett House Bed and Breakfast earned the Citizen of the Year honor. Owens has been tireless in her efforts to promote and build the community, and to help the Chamber by volunteering her time whenever a need arose, Liles said. Owens, an avid photographer, presented the gathering with a computer slide show presentation of her work over the past year that chronicled dozens of scenes from chamber-sponsored events. Starting with dog sled races in February, through Little Britches Rodeo, the Serenity Run, AppleFest and the Golden Gala, and finally to the annual Parade of Lights, banquet attendees re-lived all of the high points of the Chamber’s activities last year. The Chamber’s Parade of Lights event drew nearly twice as many entries as the previous year, Liles said, and a huge audience of spectators turned out to watch the Christmastime festivities on Main Street. The Business of the Year honor went to Cedaredge Lodge and owners Gary and Donna Allen. The lodge, recently bought by the Allens, has been the site all through 2009 for regular community events and activities that have brought Chamber members and others in the community together for fellowship, fun, and building business relationships. Volunteers of the Year for 2009 were Al and Laura Earley who have been ever ready and eager to pitch in and help with the Chamber’s many community activities. Risa Kerns accepted the Looking Good award on behalf of the Blue Sky Saloon. The local gathering place and eatery has made a major investment in the town by completing an extensive remodeling project, and the business was honored for its contribution to Cedaredge, and for encouraging other businesses to make new commitments to the town. The event was held at the Grill at Deer Creek Golf Course.
