The Hotchkiss High School soccer team opened the 2008 season in super fashion by winning the Montrose tournament last weekend.

The team, consisting of athletes from Delta County high schools, played the Montrose JV crew to a 3-3 tie, and then defeated Telluride 6-2, and downed Aspen by a 4-2 margin.

“It was a great start to the season,” stated coach Elaine Wood, adding “We really started to play well in the last two games, following the tie with Montrose.”

Against Montrose, the Bulldogs had goals from Carlos Gonzalez, and Brian and Kevin Hernandez.

In the Telluride game, Casey Sidor led the way with four goals. Gonzalez and Brian Hernandez also kicked goals.
Leo Elizaldi, Alex Quinonez, and Manuel Rameriz scored for Hotchkiss in the win over Aspen.

Hotchkiss was scheduled to play against Roaring Fork, at Carbondale, yesterday, and then host Coal Ridge this coming Saturday morning at 11 a.m.

The Saturday game will be the first varsity soccer contest ever played at Hotchkiss.
