The regular meeting of Delta Emblem Club #462 was held on Oct. 27 at the Delta Elks Lodge.
The meeting was opened according to ritual by president Dora Valdez at 7:15 p.m. Roll call showed first assistant marshal Mary Jo Chaffee and first guard Frances Myers absent. There were seven past presidents in attendance. Recording secretary Barbara Pierce read the minutes of the previous meeting. They were accepted as read. Financial secretary Wilma Harris and treasurer Kay Thatcher gave their reports. They will be filed pending audit. Corresponding secretary Kennadine Duncan read a letter from the Elks organization concerning the Laradon Hall wish list. There will be more on this at a later date. Supreme president Mary Clifford sent a letter concerning her visit to local clubs in June of next year. A local person needing help also sent a letter. The bills were read and approved. Committee reports were as follows: Sunshine — Diane Martinez sent a card and aloe plant to Ginny Chaffee and a sympathy card to the Kaiser family. Americanism — Kennadine Duncan sent 4,426 coupons to our armed forces, with 28.5 hours time involved. Community service — Margie Ahlberg gave a report covering both September and October: 22.5 hours, 35 soup labels, 1,306 miles, 115 box tops for education, four small bags pop tabs, $113.74 cash and donations to hospice amounting to over $200. Literacy — Diane Martinez read a letter from DMS principal Derek Carlson regarding their reading program. A donation will be made to this program. Ways and means — Diane reminded members of the craft sale Friday and Saturday, Dec. 5 and 6. She will need crafts, baked goods, jewelry and items for a white elephant sale. Recess was called. A scholarship march was conducted and birthdays were celebrated for Doris Levenhagen and Dora Valdez. Dora won the door prize. Under new business, the club voted to help the person having ill health and needing assistance. Plans were discussed for the annual Christmas party. It will be held at the Sundance on Dec. 1. President Dora thanked Gloria Nicholson for filling the chair of first guard and for assisting at the bingo food concession.
