Donovan Sinka, 21, was arrested by a SWAT team in Denver early Tuesday, Jan. 9, after an incident that occurred north of Cedaredge on Monday, Jan. 8. Delta County Sheriff Fred McKee provided a summary of the incident, which initially looked like Sinka was targeting a Colorado State Patrol trooper who lived in the area. Investigators determined that was not the case.
They learned Sinka had been asked by family members to leave their property. He was reportedly quite angry and as he left in his car, he allegedly grabbed a firearm and shot a couple of rounds off.
Sinka was located in Denver via pings on his cell phone and taken into custody. On Thursday he was transported to Delta County Jail and held on charges of prohibited use of a weapon, possession of a weapon by a previous offender, felony menacing and shooting from a roadway. He posted bond of $2,500.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
