Members of the local Zeta Omicron Chapter of Epsilon Sigma Alpha (ESA) Sorority will be hosting their annual St. Patrick's Day Irish Stew Luncheon on Friday, March 11. It will be held at the Cedaredge Masonic Hall from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.
The women of the sorority will be offering their bill of fare to help raise scholarship funds for worthy, high-achieving graduates of Cedaredge High School. Proceeds will go to a vocational scholarship for a CHS graduate. Last year's recipient was Lavonne Kuhns.
In addition, business people wanting to enjoy a tasty meal and help the community's next generation on to success can call in their orders and have meals delivered to their business locations.
Zeta Omicron member Elaine Muldowney of Eckert explained, "A very thoughtful and convenient feature of this event is the delivery service. Dinners will be delivered to any business at a specified time" during the luncheon.
"This service has been well received by local businesses and the business community members in the past who may be unable to leave work and come to the Masonic Hall for the lunch."
It is easy to arrange for delivery at work. Simply call ESA member Shirley Clayton at 856-3842.
The menu will include a great serving of homemade Irish stew (or potato soup for those who prefer), salad, roll, dessert and drink. Tickets are $7 each, and are available from sorority members and at the door.
The local Zeta Omicron chapter members and ESA comprise an organization that is dedicated to community service and support on the local level and beyond. Their many causes and contributions benefit the local community directly.
Muldowney explains, "The ESA Sorority is an international association dedicated to bringing good people together to do good things."
She said that on the local level, "Zeta Omicron plans and participates in philanthropic projects that allowed the chapter to donate funds in the past year to the following local causes and organizations: Cedaredge Volunteer Fire Department, HopeWest, Friends of Cedaredge Animal Control, Delta County Ambulance District, Surface Creek Community Services food bank, Cedaredge Public Library, Cedaredge High School marching band and choir, Surface Creek Saddle Club (to help replace arena bleachers), donated to purchase Christmas gifts for needy children, and provided three scholarship awards to CHS graduates.
On the national level, the sorority helps support organizations and causes that are available to local residents whenever needed. They include support for the children and research at St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital and the DreamHomes program benefiting the Boys and Girls Clubs.
