I'm used to the sound of gunfire in my neighborhood as I live near the duck blinds of Sweitzer Lake and the shooting range at the vo-tech school. And I'm not normally an alarmist. However, I was startled this morning shortly after daybreak by the sound of automatic gunfire coming from the direction of the vo-tech pistol range. I'm familiar enough with guns to tell the difference between the report of a 9 mm cartridge and a 223 NATO cartridge. This sounded like a full auto M-16 which raised questions in my mind. Are our local SWAT officers now armed with Army-type machine guns? If the local criminals are that dangerous maybe we all need machine guns? I've always felt so safe in Delta County...up till now.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
