Every summer since 2007, Cedaredge Town Park has been transformed into one of the valley's biggest neighborhood potluck dinners at the annual Party in the Park hosted by the town and community members from all over.

Once again great entrée dinner offerings were prepared by the local Krebs family and its catering business, Venita Ventures. Risa Kerns, along with Brent and Robert, gave this year's partygoers a choice of expertly cooked barbecued ribs, smoked ribs, barbecued pulled pork, Hawaiian roast, cherry-orange roast, and Mediterranean roast.

The Kerns have been a feature at the annual event for at least a half dozen years.

This year's partygoers lined up for a dazzling array of potluck offerings of salads, sides and desserts brought to the event by themselves and their neighbors.

As they dined in the park's green grass under perfectly clear mountain summer skies, the Cedaredge High School band entertained with musical selections.

Town officials said that they plan for 500 guests at the event every year.

Following a great meal and lots of friendly chatter, everyone's attention was turned to the stage for what has become a tradition at the annual party -- and at AppleFest which follows in a few weeks -- kids dancing barefoot in the grass as the David Starr Band started to play. The local favorite band rocked the stage with popular favorites like Brown-eyed Girl, Bother's Keeper, and covers by popular artists like jj cale's Magnolia. The group also performed original numbers from David's latest CD, Alive again.

As everyone enjoyed a leisurely summer evening, Gretchen Atkinson and Lindy Palmer were on duty for the Cedaredge Area Chamber of Commerce with a display of the entries in this year's AppleFest poster contest. Public voting was taken on the entries, and voting will continue at the chamber office on Main Street this week.

The chamber's annual AppleFest celebration in October is a lot of work and everyone appreciates all the time and effort that Lindy and Gretchen put in serving as the "point of contact" for planing and arrangements.helping to make the festival and Golden Gala a success.
