It was a great party in the park

Cedaredge's annual party in the park took place last Saturday, Aug. 19, with large attendance from the community.

"This event is always something that the people look forward to," said Mayor Gene Welch. "It is an opportunity for people to use the Town Park, and we enjoy doing it, even though it's a lot of work."

The event features a community potluck buffet of side dishes and desserts to complement the barbecue beef entrée provided by the town. "The caterers do a great job. Everybody loves it," Welch said.

This is the ninth year that local caterers Vinita Ventures, owned and operated by the Kerns family, have served their barbecue and smoked ribs, flavorful styles of roast beef, and pulled pork at the Party in the Park. "We appreciate that we get invited back every year," said Risa Kerns, owner.

Vinita Ventures has been in business since 2009 and is able to provide on-site feasts for virtually any occasion and for a wide variety of menu tastes. They can handle big jobs, too. Vinita Ventures has catered to 2,500 people per day at Country Jam each of the past two years, Kerns said.

The local band RARE provided entertainment for the audience who listened on the green grass of Town Park in their chairs, on blankets, or under the shade of the town's new WeatherPort Hexapae event shelter.

Another traditional feature was a bump-and-jump for the kids' enjoyment.
