Photo submitted Student body vice president Jordan Tamayo and student body president Nolan Egging showed their patriotic spirit as HHS kicked off Spirit Week with USA Day on Monday, Sept. 11.

With a theme of Decades, Hotchkiss High School is celebrating Homecoming Week 2017!

Throughout the week, each class will represent a separate decade. Seniors are '90s, juniors are '70s, sophomores are '50s, and freshmen are '20s. Student council has planned an entire week full of fun and exciting activities for Spirit Week, including dress up days. Monday is USA Day, a tribute to the 9/11 tragedy 16 years ago; Tuesday will be Disney Day; Wednesday is Group Day; Thursday is Theme Day; and finally, Friday is Game Day, where students show support to their sports teams by wearing red and white.

Students will also participate in daytime activities throughout the week, such as a scavenger hunt, school work days, a fashion show, a pep rally, float building, and other HHS traditions.

Nolan Egging, student body president stated, "Personally I'm looking forward to talking to the freshmen on Wednesday about H-Hill. Because we don't paint it anymore, it will be a good way to kind of keep the tradition of having freshmen deal with the H alive."

The community is encouraged to join students for Homecoming activities at the end of the week. On Thursday, starting at 6:15 p.m., the always entertaining Peach Fuzz tournament pits teams of boys from each class against each other in all out volleyball mayhem. The sophomore and junior girls will take on the freshmen and sophomore girls in the annual Powder Puff flag football game immediately following the crowning of the Peach Fuzz winner.

On Friday, the community will be treated to a parade down Bridge Street starting at 1:00 p.m. Each class will have its own float, along with football, cheer, volleyball, and many more student organizations participating. Friday night finds the volleyball team in matches against North Park at 4, 5 and 6 p.m. and the football team hits the field for the Homecoming game against Montrose JV at 7 p.m. The cheer and dance teams will perform at halftime and the 2017 Homecoming Queen and King will be crowned.

On Saturday, volleyball plays against West Grand at 1, 2 and 3 p.m. Later that night will be the Homecoming dance where students can dance, mingle and have fun.
