Jack Eichhorn

Longtime Austin resident Jack W. Eichhorn died June 10, 2017, at Horizons Care Center in Eckert. He was 90.

A memorial service was held July 22 at Delta United Methodist Church.

Mr. Eichhorn was born in Iowa on May 25, 1927, to George Eichhorn and Louise Whitney. He spent his childhood and went to school in Iowa, graduating from Montezuma High School in 1945. After graduation, he joined the U.S. Navy and after his service, he attended Iowa State University where he received his bachelor's degree.

On Sept. 17, 1956, he married Mary Grace Buffington in Sioux City, Iowa.

Mr. Eichhorn attended the Cedaredge Methodist Church and Delta Methodist Church, where he was part of the choir. He was also a member of the clown group that visited nursing homes and supported the Magic Circle Theatre in Montrose.

He enjoyed the theater, growing roses, feeding birds, traveling with his wife and making people laugh and smile.

He is survived by two sons, John (Michelle) Eichhorn of Fort Collins and Jeff (Tats) Eichhorn of Olathe; one daughter, Barbara Jean Crawford of Greeley; six grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Mary; a brother, John; and one sister, Jean.
