Delta resident John R. "Jack" Finnegan died Tuesday, May 17, 2017, at Willow Tree Care Center in Delta. He was 85.
He was born near Placerville on March 16, 1932, to William and Jane (Gallagher) Finnegan. He grew up in the Telluride area. After he graduated from high school in Telluride, he worked as a surveyor on the Alaskan Highway. He served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War.
On May 19, 1957, he married Mary Wood in Montrose. They lived in Olathe and the Pea Green community.
Mr. Finnegan worked for the telephone company for 38 years, first as a lineman and later as a cable splicer.
He enjoyed camping, riding his ATV, being in the mountains and spending time with his family. After retirement he took up woodworking and made all types of furniture.
He is survived by three sons, Jim (Jill) Finnegan, Kenneth (Kathleen) Finnegan and Andy Finnegan; one sister, Mary Crompton; eight grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Mary, in 2016; his sister, Margaret Orr; his brother, Frank Finnegan; and a son, Ed Finnegan.
A graveside sevice will be held Saturday, June 3, at 10 a.m. at the Olathe Cemetery, with Pastor Monte Baker officiating.
