James Hunt

James Paul Hunt of Olathe died Aug. 13, 2015, at his home. He was 63.

He was born in San Antonio, Texas, Feb. 28, 1952, to Donald and Carol (Choquette) Hunt. He grew up and attended school in Texas.

After high school, he served in the U.S. Army, 82nd Airborne Division. He moved to Colorado after he was discharged.

He married Barbara Dodge June 28, 1975, in Montrose. They lived in Montrose where they were youth leaders at First Baptist Church of Montrose and shared the gospel through music and song. They moved to California, Kansas and Washington before returning to Montrose and helping with music with Rev. and Mrs. Mel Dreessen, traveling in rural southwest Colorado and southeast Utah in after school Bible clubs. Their last move was to Olathe in 1996.

Mr. Hunt worked as an electrician and in various areas of construction.

He enjoyed playing the guitar, hunting and camping on the Uncompahgre Plateau, gardening and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his wife, Barbara of Olathe; his sons, Jacob (Kristie) Hunt of Hotchkiss and Titus Hunt of Anchorage, Alaska; his daughter, Kezia (Erik) Colnick of Frederick; a sister, Lee Ann (Robert) Mora of Dallas, Texas; two grandchildren, Ian Brophy and Benjamin Hunt; and extended family.

He was preceded in death by a son, Jeremiah Hunt; a sister, Theresa Hicks; and his parents.

A memorial service will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 22, at Crossroads Victory Worship Center in Montrose.
