Delta High School's speech and debate team recently competed in the national qualification tournaments. The Congress tournament was hosted at Central High School Feb. 9-10, and the main event tournament was hosted by Grand Junction High School March 2-3.

The schools in attendance ranged from Moffat County to Ouray, and the competition was fierce. Two DHS competitors made it all the way to finals in informative speaking. Caleb Frazier is the first alternate and Mairany Jaracuaro won first place. Mairany will travel to Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in June to compete in the national tournament.

Delta's speech team is hosting its annual Desserts and Diversions fundraiser on Monday, March 12, at 7 p.m in the DHS cafetorium. Tickets are only $5. Come enjoy unlimited entertainment and dessert. Proceeds help pay for tournament entry fees.

See anyone on the DHS speech team or email danielle.lopez@deltaschools.com for more information.

Also, the team always needs judges for competitions.
