Mari McCarville, a former student of the North Fork Montessori School, was one of 42 young leaders recognized with a Boettcher Foundation Scholarship in May 2016. A graduate of Grand Junction High School, she is majoring in music and biology, with a concentration in neuroscience, at the University of Denver.
Each Boettcher Scholar is asked to name an influential teacher and Mari selected her preschool/kindergarten teacher, Jenny Eyler. Eyler was awarded $1,000 to be used in her classroom. The Boettcher Foundation asks that the award be used to benefit as many students as possible so Eyler bought a set of Montessori bells that can be used by all students for years to come. Providing a chance to experience music at an early age by playing the perfectly pitched bells seemed fitting.
Thanks to the efforts of state Rep. Millie Hamner, House District 61, Colorado State University plans to re-open the Rogers Mesa research site.
The facility was taken out of operation in 2011, due to budget cuts throughout the CSU system.
