Jimmie McClure

Delta resident Jimmie R. McClure died Jan. 11, 2016, at Delta County Memorial Hospital. He was 89.

At his request, no services will be held at this time.

Mr. McClure was born in Vernon, Texas, Nov. 26, 1926, to Hugh and Maude (Cleveland) McClure. He was raised in the West Texas oil fields.

He joined the Navy when he was 17 and served in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was a shipfitter on a tanker and was involved in eight invasions.

After serving in the military for three years, he lived in San Diego, Calif., where he married and had two children.

He worked as a welder at Solar International Harvester where he welded machinery that went to the moon. He retired after 30 years, in 1975.

He married Marlene (Silva) McClure in 1974 in San Diego. They had three children. The McClures eventually moved to northern California where Mr. McClure raised horses. In 1987, they bought a ranch in Delta and he continued to raise horses there.

Mr. McClure enjoyed dancing, fishing, four-wheeling and spending time with friends and family. He belonged to AF & AM #62 Masonic Lodge in Delta.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene McClure; five children, Tom (Marcie) McClure, Barb (Mel) Sargent, Joyce (Jim) Cooke, Bret (Heidi) Ball and Brian (Sheila) Ball; a brother, Winn McClure; a sister, Judy Cheatam; 12 grandchildren, Brandon, Travis, Tyler, Karrie, Clinton, Jamie, Stacy, Becky, Melanie, Eric, Jeremy and Dannon; and 11 great-grandchildren, Tanner, Parker, Ireland, Colby, Lennise, Gwen, River, Thomas, Logan, Trevor and London.

Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory handled the arrangements.
