Joseph "Jo Joe" V. Gonzales of Grand Junction died Feb. 25, 2016, in Boulder City, Nev. He was 59.
He was born in Delta April 10, 1956, to Pete and Eva Gonzales. He was raised and attended school in Delta.
He moved to Grand Junction where he worked for 20 years as a mechanic for First Student Laidlaw Transportation. In 2015, illness caused him to move to Nevada to be near family.
Mr. Gonzales enjoyed his family and was a Broncos fan.
He is survived by a daughter, Courtney (Zachary Woods) Gonzales of Des Moines, Iowa; four grandchildren, Brianna Gonzales of Pueblo, Tristan McEachern, Ethan McEachern and Caitlyn McEachern, all of Denver; six siblings, George (Leona) Gonzales of Las Vegas, Nev., Gene (Anita) Gonzales of Delta, John (Evelyn) Gonzales of Cañon City, Sandy Gonzales of Montrose, Christina (Moses) Gonzales of Salem, Ore., and Rose Gonzales of Phoenix, Ariz.; a niece, Mandi Gonzales; and extended family.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Pete and Eva Gonzales; a daughter, Tara McEachern; two brothers, Pete and Billy Gonzales, and a niece, Brandy Gonzales.
A rosary will be spoken at 8 p.m., Friday, April 1, and mass will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 2, both at St. Michael Catholic Church. Interment with his niece, Brandy Gonzales, will follow at Mesa View Cemetery.
Taylor Funeral Service and Crematory is handling the arrangements.
On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
