The Board of County Commissioners have named John Baier to the post of Delta County attorney.
Baier currently serves as assistant county attorney. He will take up his new duties Aug. 3 when current county attorney Jin Ho Pack is sworn in as county judge replacing the retiring Sandra Miller.
"We have the utmost faith in and respect for John," said Commissioner Mark Roeber. "We look forward to his continued service."
County commission chair Doug Atchley said that he was pleased Baier's promotion demonstrates upward mobility opportunity within county government. He also explained that upon the advice of an outside counsel, the commissioners chose to negotiate directly with Baier the terms of his new employment, rather than post a job opening for the position.
The commissioners did, however, direct the county administrator to post a job opening for the position of assistant county attorney.
On Tuesday, Sept. 11, the Delta County Board of Commissioners called a special meeting to consider the board's response to the Bureau of Land Management's preliminary Environmental Assessment (EA) concerning the lease parcels proposed for the December BLM sale.
Several people from the North Fork were present to provide input.
