John Patrick Jackson died Saturday, April 30, 2016, at his home. He was 67.
A private family Mass of Christian burial will be held in the Catholic Church in Pagosa Springs.
Mr. Jackson was born in Pagosa Springs June 19, 1948, to William and Allie Mae (Sayles) Jackson. He spent his childhood in Pagosa Springs and graduated from Pagosa Springs High School in 1966.
He married Barbara Jo Smith in Pagosa Springs Oct. 12, 1969. He worked for the Colorado Department of Corrections, retiring on April 29 from the Delta Correctional Center, where he had worked for the past 20 years.
He was a Catholic. He enjoyed spending time with his family, hunting and fishing.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Barbara Jackson of Delta; two sons, John "Cody" (Rosario) Jackson of Nogales, Ariz., and Travis (Erin) Jackson of Grand Junction; two daughters, Marijka Sue Grasmick of Lakin, Kan., and Jolene Paige Jackson of Salida; a brother, William (Eileen) Jackson of Scott City, Kan.; a sister, Essie Marie Kirk of Rapid City, S.D.; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Thomas Jackson; and a son-in-law, Steven Grasmick.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
