Longtime Delta resident John Rodney Preator died Sunday, Jan. 15, 2017, at his home. He was 68.
No formal services will be held in Colorado. Inurnment will take place at Kansas Veterans Cemetery in WaKeeney, Kan.
Mr. Preator was born in Evanston, Ill., Sept. 9, 1948, to Rodney and Amelia (Jarosz) Preator. He graduated from East High School in Pueblo in 1967. He was a veteran of the United States Navy. He spent the rest of his life living on his own terms.
He is survived by his father, Rodney; and his sister, Gay Preator, both of LaCrosse, Kan.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Sally; and his brother, Bob Preator.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
