John E. Tingler of Cedaredge died March 28, 2016, at Colorow Care Center in Olathe. He was 89.
Private family interment will be at Queen of Heaven Cemetery in Hillside, Ill.
Mr. Tingler was born in Chicago, Ill., June 20, 1926, to John and Adelaide (Koebele) Tingler. He spent his childhood in Chicago and graduated from St. Ignatius High School in 1944.
He served in the U.S. Army and received two Bronze Stars while in the Philippines. He fought on the islands of Cebu, Negros and Leyte.
Mr. Tingler owned a retail wall covering store in Villa Park, Ill. He lived in Lombard, Ill., before moving to Cedaredge.
He was a member of St. Philip Benizi Catholic Church in Cedaredge.
He was a jack of all trades -- plumbing, electrical, flooring and carpentry.
Mr. Tingler is survived by his three sons, Mark (Cynthia) Tingler of Cedaredge, Stephen Tingler and Timothy (Sue) Tingler, all of Illinois; a daughter, Karen (Lance) Neville of Illinois; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
