Juan Carrillo of Delta died Friday, Jan. 13, 2017, at St. Mary's Hospital. He was 86.
Rosary will be recited Thursday, Jan. 19, 6 p.m. at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Delta.
He was born in Mexico on March 27, 1930, to Elijio and Romana (Angon) Carrillo. He grew up in Mexico. He held numerous jobs from laborer to janitorial work.
Mr. Carrillo played baseball for an organized Mexican league. After receiving his U.S. residency, he found a home in Delta where his wife and children still live.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Evangelina; three sons, Danny Carrillo, Victor (Holly) Carrillo and Alejandro (Celeste) Carrillo; two daughters, Ofelia (Ed) Valdez and Sally Lopez; 15 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
