A total of 172 market animals and pens were offered for sale by 4-H and FFA members at the 2015 Junior Market Livestock Sale, held Saturday, Aug. 8, at the county fair.
Sales totaled $228,324.21, including $73,824.08 for 19 beef animals, averaging $3,862.32 per head; $5,299.92 for 12 chicken pens, averaging $441.66 per pen; $31,600.14 for 39 goats, averaging $810.26 per head; $25,499.88 for 27 lambs, averaging $944.44 per head; $1,500 for three rabbit pens, averaging $500 per pen; $86,200.19 for 67 swine, averaging $1,286.57 per head; and $2,250 for five pens of turkeys, averaging $450 per pen.
Total sales for the cheese basket sale were $21,500 for four baskets, averaging $537.50 per basket. The Delta County 4-H and FFA members again thank all the supporters of the Junior Market Livestock Sale.
Last year a total of 196 market animals were sold, with beef averaging $3,341.41 per head, chickens averaging $340.91 per pen, goats averaging $646.58 per head, lambs averaging $747.14 per head, turkeys averaging $450 per pen and swine averaging $1,116.11 per head. Two pens of rabbits went for $450 each and the four cheese baskets averaged $438.75 per basket.
This year's fair drew 248 4-H/FFA exhibitors and 287 open class exhibitors.
Delta Volunteer Fire Department (DVFD) will be holding its annual fireworks show at Confluence Park on Wednesday, July 4, having received approval from Delta City Council at the council's June 5 meeting.
The DVFD has 28 volunteers and expects to have eight to 10 firefighters from Cedaredge join them this year.
