The seventh annual Sheep Dog Trials 5k was held in Hotchkiss on Saturday, May 7. Proceeds from the run support the Women Advancing Math and Science Scholarship. Registration was a rainy affair but the weather cleared up by start time and the 40 runners enjoyed a cool morning run.
The overall male winner was Robert Kanieski of Granby with a time of 22:06 and the overall female winner was Christie Ashwander of Cedaredge with a time of 23:23. Other winners by age group were:
10 & under -- CeCe Houseweart, female; Quintin Morlang, male.
Ages 11-14 -- Izzi Houseweart, female; Adam Smith, male.
Ages 19-29 -- Tia Clock, female; Mateusz Pena, male.
Ages 30-40 -- Leah Morris, female; Ira Houseweart, male;
Ages 41-50 -- Mollie Young, female.
Ages 51-60 -- Lynn Callicutt, female; Thomas Wills, male.
Ages 61-70 -- Mary Hockenbery, female; Dave Knutson, male.
Age 71+ -- Libby Schovajsa, female.
Delta County Joint School District #50, and its special counsel, Jon Olafson, have responded to the complaint filed by Cidney Fisk, a 2016 Delta High School graduate. Fisk has filed suit in federal court, accusing DHS teachers, guidance counselors, administrators and school district leadership of retaliation after she spoke out against religious activities during school hours on school property.
