Kathleen Hawkins

Kathleen Hawkins died March 16, 2016, at Horizons Care Center. She was 95.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m., Friday, March 25, at Eckert Presbyterian Church with Rev. David Hawkins officiating. Interment will follow at Cedaredge Cemetery, and a potluck reception will be held at the Redlands Mesa Grange Hall at 1:30 p.m.

Kathleen Belle Rowell was born in Green River, Utah, March 2, 1921, to Wilbur and Thelma (Stillwagen) Rowell. She spent her childhood in both Green River and Moab, Utah, and graduated from Grand County High School in Moab in 1939.

On Nov. 4, 1942, she married John Hawkins in Berkeley, Calif. She moved to Redlands Mesa in 1949.

Mrs. Hawkins was a newspaper editor and a bookkeeper. She enjoyed writing, rescuing stray cats and spending quality time with her children and grandchildren. She was an artist. She was a member of Redlands Mesa Community Club, Redlands Mesa Grange, Upper Surface Creek Domestic Water Users Association and Sage Dome Watercolorists.

She is survived by her husband, John Hawkins; her son, Dan (Helen) Hawkins of Redlands Mesa; her daughters, Sharon MacKendrick of Milan, N.M., and Laura Donovan of Delta; her brother, Dan (Virginia) Rowell of Boise, Idaho; six grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and one great-great-granddaughter.

She was preceded in death by a great-granddaughter, Danielle Ziegler; a brother, Ben; and four sisters, Delores, Adelaide, June and Anna Laurie.
