Paonia resident Kenneth Hilton died Monday, May 30, 2016, at Paonia Care Center. He was 91.
Cremation has taken place. A private family memorial service with inurnment in Garden of Memories Cemetery in Crawford will be held at a later date.
Kenneth Arthur Hilton was born in Eureka, Calif., Feb. 22, 1925, to Ralph and Edith (Errington) Hilton. He spent his childhood in Arcata, Calif., and graduated from Arcata High School in 1943.
He married Marlys J. VanDenBerg on April 21, 1945, in San Francisco, Calif. They lived in Napa, Calif., before moving to Paonia where they lived for 30 years.
Mr. Hilton enjoyed reading, building, puzzles, learning and volunteering at Paonia Elementary School. He was of a non-denominational faith.
He is survived by his wife, Marlys; three daughters, Janet (Morrie) Rupp, Elaine (Richard) Davis and Jeanine (Joseph) Finnell; six grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.

On Dec. 4 Delta County Commissioners Doug Atchley, Mark Roeber and Don Suppes denied the application of Paonia Holdings, LLC for a change of land use for the property at 41322 Highway 133, with an adjacent residence at 41402 Highway 133 and an ancillary property at 16180 Stevens Gulch Road.
The property is owned by Bowie Resources, LLC, and was formerly used as a coal load-out site.
