Surrounded by impossibly large buildings, cheered on by masses of spectators, and supported from thousands of miles away by their hometown, the Cedaredge High School Music Department marched down historic Constitution Avenue blasting the school fight song.
The Cedaredge High School Marching Band and Choir have set the evening of Tuesday, May 24, as a special "Thank You" concert for the local community, the DCI has learned.
The group has reached its fundraising goal to pay for its honors trip to Washington, D.C., over the Memorial Day weekend.
Plans and arrangements for their big trip to Washington, D.C., are being finalized as members of the Cedaredge High School marching band and choir look forward to their by-invitation performance at the nation's Memorial Day celebration this year.
The community and the band members themselves have been working to raise necessary support for the $63,000 educational adventure that will include 41 members of the band and choir.
During halftime of the first home football game on Sept. 4, the CHS Marching Band played music up to the bleachers completely filled with fans from the community. Its season began in the heat of July, and now competition season begins to heat up.
Cedaredge High School welcomed Melissa Gross as the new band director in 2014. She led the marching band to not only another state championship last year, but to a performance at the Rockies game and an invitation to Washington, D.C.
The Cedaredge High School marching band has been invited to play the national anthem at the Colorado Rockies baseball game in Denver Saturday, Sept. 5. The band will join about four other state championship bands from other competition classes.
