Election Day is Nov. 7. Ballots have been mailed to electors residing in the Town of Crawford and within the boundaries of the Delta County Ambulance District. Mill levy increase sought for EMS

This week, the Delta County clerk and recorder's office mailed 13,728 ballots to residents of the Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD), plus another 947 to property owners for a total of 14,675.

DCAD has been reaching out to as many voters as possible in Delta and the Surface Creek through a series of community meetings addressing the mill levy question on the ballot.

Fundraiser provides over $2,000 for DCAD

Delta County Ambulance District has applied for a grant to maintain staffing levels while it mounts a second effort to increase property tax revenues.

A ballot question seeking a mill levy increase was defeated in November by a margin of 47 percent in favor, 53 percent against.

2016 Election Coverage

The voting is over and the counting has begun across the country as the focus is on electing a new president. Early returns show Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton locked in a very close contest and it will be long into the night before the outcome will be known.

Closer to home, as of 8 p.m., the Delta County races are fairly well settled but the votes from satellite polling sites have not been tallied. The voter turnout countywide has been very strong, with 62.5 percent casting ballots so far.

Ambulance tax increase gets town's support

The Orchard City Town Board, which is considering its own sales tax proposal for the town, last week gave a thumbs up to the Delta County Ambulance District's bid for a 2.25 mill tax increase on the November ballot.

Following a presentation at the board's Oct. 12 meeting, trustees voted to give political support to the ambulance district's proposal for the tax hike from 2.5 to 5.75 mills.

The Delta County Ambulance District has steadily been depleting its reserves, even though run volume is increasing. Kirby Clock, ambulance district manager, says the reason is straightforward: Delta County has an increasing number of patients who are on Medicare and Medicaid, which pays a fixed amount for services.
