The Town of Hotchkiss will soon implement new fees and increase others. "These fees are designed to be sustaining, but not make money," explained Mayor Wendell Koontz.
The National Park Service is seeking comment on a proposal to collect entrance fees during the winter season at Black Canyon of the Gunnison National Park. Fees would be the same as summer months, $15 per vehicle, $7 for pedestrians, bicyclists and motorcycles.
Paonia trustees are leaning toward continuing a moratorium on sales of out-of-town water taps until a proposed rate study is completed sometime in 2016 and in light of problems associated with the town's aging water delivery and distribution systems. The town had anticipated lifting the moratorium, established in 2007, once storage could be increased as part of the recent water systems upgrades project.
Paonia trustees adopted a resolution at the Sept. 22 board meeting that establishes a schedule of fees and fines.
Trustee Ross King prefaced the discussion by clarifying that the schedule was created at the direction of the board of trustees and was not ordered by town manager Jane Berry.
