Four industrial hemp seed varieties approved by state

The Colorado Department of Agriculture (CDA) is announcing that four industrial hemp seed varieties have passed the statewide THC validation and observation trial and are now eligible to be grown by the Colorado Seed Growers Association for production of "CDA Approved Certified Seed."

This year, the CDA Approved Certified Hemp seed program trialed four varieties of hemp across Colorado's diverse growing conditions to validate if they would prove to grow mature plants that fall within industrial hemp requirements set by Amendment 64 in the Colorado Constitution.

Hemp testing facility approved by Paonia board

The Paonia board of trustees voted last week to approve a special use permit for AllHemp Trading Limited (AHT) to operate a hemp nursery and testing facility at 719 Second Street.

During a more than two hour public hearing held Aug. 8, AHT CEO Elliott Brown fielded numerous questions from trustees and the public on issues including chemical use and storage, public safety, noxious fumes and odors, noise, traffic, lighting and hours of operation.

Hemp facility clears planning commission

On Aug. 8 the Town of Paonia Board of Trustees will consider a request for a special review/variance application to operate a commercial hemp business within town limits.

At a July 20 meeting of the town Planning Commission, members Charles Stewart, Bill Bear, Mary Bachran and Barb Heck voted to recommend approval of the application by the town board of trustees, subject to testing and reasonable inspections.

Plan for hemp facility in Paonia under review

The Paonia Town Planning Commission will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, July 27, at Town Hall to consider a request for a special review/variance application to operate a commercial hemp business.

Applicant Elliot Brown submitted plans for the facility, which includes installation of climate and odor control infrastructure and other changes to property located at 719 Second Street.

Hemp test program will shape industry

The Colorado Department of Agriculture is introducing a new program aimed at bringing industrial hemp into mainstream agriculture. Seed produced and conditioned under this program will be issued "CDA Approved Certified Seed" tags through the Colorado Seed Growers Association (CSGA) if the production standards are met and then will be available for purchase through the developer.
