A program designed to attract new businesses and stimulate economic development is being considered by the Paonia Board of Trustees. Under the resolution the town would provide tax relief programs for new businesses and new hires that locate into approved "Jump-Start" zones.
Orchard City and Cedaredge have opted to participate in the state's Rural Jump Start economic stimulus program. But officials believe the pool of new businesses that will qualify for the tax incentives being offered is small.
Cathy Cheatham with the Friends of Crawford Town Hall reported to Town Council at the Jan. 18 public work session that after expenses, the fourth annual Festival of Trees raised $2,200 for Town Hall improvement projects. "Our town is just so generous," said Cheatham.
