The girls cross country team from Paonia High School capped its first trip to the 2A state meet in three years with a sixth place finish.
Brooke Hillman finished the course in Colorado Springs first for the Eagles, crossing the line in 22 minutes, 23 seconds to finish 29th overall.
For the first time in four years, the football team from Paonia High School will not win the 1A Western Slope Conference.
As happened every year since 2013, the conference title came down to the game between Paonia and Meeker. The Eagles and Cowboys have had a fierce rivalry since then.
The Hotchkiss High School volleyball team is finishing off the regular season the right way, with a couple of wins.

The Eagles went to Carbondale and had no problem with Roaring Fork on the gridiron, winning 55-7 last Friday and improving to 4-0 in nonconference play.
The Paonia High School football team won its third game in a row to open the season and the Eagles might well be back on top of Class 1A once again.
No. 2 Paonia rolled to a 38-0 win at Ridge View in Watkins last Friday afternoon and stands at 3-0.
