Holiday Marketplace successfully funds AEDs

North Fork Ambulance (NFA) sponsored a Holiday Marketplace Saturday, Nov. 18, with the proceeds from lunch and a basket drawing going toward the district's automated external defibrillator (AED) project.

The purpose of the project is to increase the chances of survival for people who experience a sudden cardiac arrest emergency in the North Fork Valley.

New vehicles improve emergency response

North Fork residents may have noticed a new kind of Emergency Medical Services (EMS) vehicle traveling our local roads. These "Quick Response Vehicles" (QRVs), purchased through state and federal grants, local fundraising and generous donations, are specifically designed to bring North Fork Ambulance Advance Level EMTs directly to the scene of an emergency to begin a higher level of care much sooner than it has ever before been available in the North Fork Valley.

Since 1969, the North Fork Ambulance has responded to emergency calls in all three North Fork communities and Somerset. Today it is the only ambulance service in the North Fork area. Rotary helps fund classes for NFA crew

Paonia resident Steve Simpson will soon be one of a handful of North Fork Ambulance crew members to be certified as an Emergency Medical Technician-Intermediate.

Simpson originally joined NFA in 1995, then later worked full time for the Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD) before going to work at the coal mines.

NFAA eyes options ahead of membership drive

The NFAA, the only ambulance service operating in the North Fork area, is considering all of its options after estimating a 2015 budget deficit of almost $200,000.
