If you're yearning for a walk along the river, consider Paonia River Park.
A mile-long segment of walking trail was recently completed at the park, located just beyond the North Fork Historical Society Museum on Grand Avenue.
Seats on the 16th annual Western Colorado Conservation Center's float trip down the North Fork of the Gunnison River are sold out, but there's room for all at the post-float trip party at Paonia River Park.
WSCC executive director Alex Johnson was granted approval by Paonia trustees on May 10 to hold the party.
The community's need for more trails will be eased this summer with the help of a grant the Western Slope Conservation Center (Conservation Center) received from the Colorado Parks and Wildlife Commission. The $137,000 grant will fund the construction of two loop trails at Paonia River Park, a former in-stream gravel mine the Conservation Center has restored into a healthy riparian area and community park.
